BALIK TANAW  1983 – 2003

20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
July 25 to
August 3, 2003

ALL SYSTEMS GO!

The Officers and Members of the Paetenians International (PI) Canada Chapter met last Saturday (June 14, 2003) at
Tom Cahatol’s residence and voted unanimously and enthusiastically to proceed with their week-long 20th Anniversary agenda.  The decision was made after a quick survey of their out-of-town visitors showed that most of them are still determined to come and be part of their Anniversary celebration despite the inaccurate portrayal in the news media that city of Toronto is a SARS-infected city (absolutely FALSE!).

Evelyn and I intend to see you (in Canada) with or without SARS!”, wrote former Mayor Emmanuel Cadayona who will join the Anniversary as the official representative of the PAETEech Foundation Inc., the implementing arm of the Alay-Computer project of the three elementary schools in Paete.

The PI-Canada Chapter’s Executive Committee wrote: “We won’t let these people down.  They’ve made their travel plans despite the adverse news reporting and so we will not disappoint them!”

“If you were here during the Camping 2000 last July 2000, you know what we are talking about- except that this time it will even be more memorable and double the enjoyment!  We are again rolling out the red carpet for our out-of-town visitors during our week-long anniversary to be highlighted by a Dinner-Dance date with our honorable town Mayor Elmoise B.Afurong on the night of July 26 and culminating in a camping get-together (August 1-3) at the farmland owned by the Cadawas Family in Bobcaygeon, Ontario

The AGENDA

Friday (July 25, 2003)- WELCOME DINNER

The anniversary kicks off with the PI-Canada’s traditional WELCOME Dinner at the residence of Arnie and Loyd Quesada in Scarborough, Ontario (scene of the same Welcome Dinner of our 10th Anniversary and the Camping 2000).

Saturday (July 26, 2003) – OPEN FORUM / DINNER DANCE

From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, everybody is invited for the Paetenians International Open Forum to be moderated by PI President Ver Madrinan at the Rembrandt Banquet Hall Meeting Room.  We will talk about the BalikPaete 2004 reunion, the Alay Computer project, a Q & A session with Mayor Afurong and any topics under the sun.

At 6:00 PM, the atmosphere will turn formal with our main Anniversary event: the DINNER-DANCE party at the Rembrandt Banquet Hall.  There will be a LIVE Band where you can dance to the tune of the 60’s and the 70’s as well contemporary pop and rock music mixed with your favorite line dancing tunes.  Ross Navarro and Jun Paygane will showcase their award-winning culinary talents in the dining area. Get your Kodak memories ready!  If you don’t have one, no need to worry as there will be an official photographer to take your best photo for your anniversary’s keepsake.

Sunday (July 27, 2003) – NIAGARA FALLS FIESTA PICNIC

A visit to Toronto is not complete without a visit to the majestic and romantic Niagara Falls!  The entire PI Canada Chapter and their guests will travel on a leisurely  1 ½ hour drive from Toronto to Niagara Falls where we will have our annual Fiesta Picnic celebration at the Queenston Heights Park (we’ll be serving lutong Paete!).  Guests can stay in the Park for a non-stop ‘usloan’ session or go on sightseeing tour of the various Niagara Falls attractions where a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist (the same boat ride that Princess Diana rode when she visited Niagara Falls) is highly recommended.  The group will stay late in Niagara Falls to see the Falls illuminations and to experience Niagara Falls’ night-life (Canada’s city that never sleeps!). We will drive home shortly after 10:00 pm but guests who prefer to stay overnight  may do so as there are a lot of attractions in the Niagara Falls area that could keep you busy for another day.  (Contact your PI Canada friends if you need help finding accommodation in the area).

Monday  (July 28, 2003) – REST DAY

This is officially a REST day for the anniversary visitors.  They are encourage to go and visit their friends and relatives in the Greater Toronto area (consisting of Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York, Richmond Hill, Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa, Burlington, Hamilton, etc.) and spend a karaoke singing session with them!  Those who will prefer to stay at Niagara Falls for another day can visit the Marineland (the equivalent of Florida’s Seaworld) and the nearby African Lion Safari.

Tuesday (July 29, 2003) -  BREAK-OUT SESSION

A.  Group 1 - The Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec Group

Guests joining the Group Tour to  Quebec City, Montreal City and Ottawa City today.will start their tour today at Canada’s capital city: Ottawa (about 400 kilometers from Toronto; 4 to 5 hours drive).  Later in the afternoon, they will go to Montreal City which is about 200 kilometers from Ottawa (2 hour drive) and book stay in a hotel there for the night. Hopefully, you will meet some Paetenians there like Gunnar/Elena Emausson and Luz Valdellon.  In Ottawa, you may chance upon Mando Baisas and friends.

The Group Tour costs: Can$210.00 (US$157.00) per person (half-price for children under 12). It includes airconditioned tour bus; 2 nights 4-star hotel accommodation (2 persons per room); breakfast and dinner.  Please contact any PI Canada officers to reserve your seat.  Seating is limited to 44 people in the bus so book your seat early before its too late!

B.  Group 2 - The Toronto Group

Guests who prefer to stay in Toronto while waiting for the Camping week-end can start with a Toronto City Tour.  In order to maximize your city tour, we recommend that you leave your vehicle behind (costs of parking in downtown Toronto is quite high!) and instead join either the double-decker tour bus (where visitors are given a day-pass that they can use for an entire day) or the amphibian bus tour where your tour bus will end at Lake Ontario after a city drive for a leisurely ferry ride around the city.  Those who prefer to “walk” than ride may want to retrace the Conrad Caiyod-led “Death March” during the Camping 2000 celebration in the 27 kilometers underground shopping center called P.A.T.H (starting at the former Eaton’s Center and ending at the CN Tower).  After the city tour, guests are invited to go to Jun and Sol Paygane’s residence near downtown Toronto for a well-deserved dinner and Karaoke session while cooling their heels.

Wednesday (July 30, 2003) – BREAK-OUT SESSION continues

A. Group 1 - The Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec Group

The Group Tour resumes today with a sight-seeing tour of Montreal City. Later in the afternoon, the group will be driven to Quebec City where they will stay for the night.  Quebec City is about two hours drive from Montreal.

B. Group 2 - The Toronto Group

A whole day visit to CANADA WONDERLAND (a theme park) is recommended for today.  You are then invited for Dinner at Conrad Caiyod’s residence in Richmond Hill, Ontario after a tiring day at Wonderland (about 10 minutes drive from Wonderland). There is no better way to relax after a tiring day at the Park than to listen to Conrad’s ‘sistes’.  Alternate venue:  Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto- Concert  with the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, The Guess Who, Justin Timberlake, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips, Kathleen Edwards, The Isley Brothers, Sass Jordan, La Chicane at the Downsview Park (2 pm to 11 pm).

Thursday (July 31, 2003)- BREAK-OUT SESSIOIN continues

A. Group 1 - The Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec Group

The Group Tour resumes today with a sightseeing tour of Quebec City (a city full of historical places to visit). The Group will be driven back to Toronto later in the afternoon. Alternatively, you may choose stay for another night in Quebec City (there’s a lot to see and do in Quebec City for two nights!) and drive straight to Bobcaygeon, Ontario the following day for the Camping week-end (it is approximately 4-5 hours drive from Quebec City to Bobcaygeon). You must book your own hotel if you choose to stay for an extra night in Quebec City.

B. Group 2 - The Toronto Group

If you still have energy for the day, you may consider a visit to Ontario Place or  a sightseeing tour of Toronto’s Islands (where you will ride a ferry).  In the late afternoon, if there are enough interest, PI Canada may  arrange for a CASINO RAMA Tour in Orilla, Ontario (which includes a free buffet dinner), where the musical band Chicago (If you leave me now!) is playing.  You can either spend the night in the slots machine or watch CHICAGO in concert in the Auditorium.

Friday (August 1, 2003) to Sunday (August 3, 2003) – CAMPING 2003!

The Cadawas Family of Ontario (Ronnie/Benny Cadawas, Sophie Cadawas/Ernie Buenaventura and Becka Cadawas) cordially invites you to spend three days and two nights with the members of the PI-Canada Chapter in their farmland in Bobcaygeon, Ontario.

Bobcaygeon is a leisurely two-hour drive from Toronto located in a place which Torontonians fondly refer to as the “Cottage Country”.  You can bring your own camping tent and set it up in their huge farmland, you can sleep in their barn or you can stay in a nearby hotel/motel (within a 4-5 kilometer radius).  This will be similar to our Camping 2000 experience except that because the Cadawas Family own the land, you can sing and laugh your hearts out during the night without worrying about disturbing other people.

Aside from the non-stop usloan and sistehan, there are tons of activities that await you in Bobcaygeon, a city situated on three picturesque islands between two of the loveliest lakes in Ontario, and within the City of Kawartha Lakes. Bobcaygeon offers both activity and tranquility. Canoeing, boating, golfing, fishing, hiking and cycling compete for attention with lounging, walking, shopping and sightseeing. For more details and to find a suitable hotel/motel for your accommodations, please go to: http://picanada.paete.org

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

To our Anniversary visitors who are flying to Toronto:  If you are not planning to rent your vehicle during your stay in Toronto, please let us know your flight schedules and we will make arrangements for someone to pick-you up at the airport and for your attendance in our various anniversary activities.

We will provide all visitors with a detailed local map to all our Anniversary venues upon your arrival in Toronto.
